Unit 9 · Review: the first Bulgarian words · Meet

Review: the first Bulgarian words

Read without sound before checking your answers.

About this unit

No new letters: read your first words silently, then check their stress by listening.

вv, as in “van”
рr, tapped or rolled
нn, as in “no”

They look Latin, but say v, r and n.

сs, as in “sun”
хkh, as in Scottish “loch”
уoo, as in “moon”

They look Latin, but say s, kh and u.

If a Latin reading comes back, open the letter again and say its Bulgarian sound.

Use a Bulgarian keyboard

Bulgarian has a standard BDS layout and widely used phonetic layouts. Either is optional: the guided course has on-screen tiles. Keep ъ and ь separate. Teaching acute accents may be omitted in input; the grave in ѝ belongs to the word and is not a removable stress hint.
