LauraDobré ráno, paní doktorko! Dnes čtyřicet pacientů.
Good morning, doctor! Forty patients today.
EvaČtyřicet? Dobře. Pracujeme do sedmi. První pacient, prosím!
Forty? Well, we work until seven. First patient, please!

An old man with a walking stick comes in very slowly and sits down with a happy sigh. - Pacient
Dobrý den, paní doktorko! Zase já.
Good day, doctor! It's me again.
EvaPane Antoníne! Jste tady dvakrát týdně. Jak vám je?
Oh, Mr Antonín! You're here twice a week. How do you feel?
- Pacient
Špatně. Bolí mě záda. A noha. A hlava.
Bad. My back hurts. And my leg. And my head.
EvaI hlava? Dobře. Zhluboka se nadechněte. Ještě jednou.
Your head too? All right. Breathe in deeply... Once more.
- Pacient
Paní doktorko, moje děti jsou daleko. Doma se moc nudím.

EvaNejste nemocný. Jen se nudíte.
You aren't ill. You're just bored.

EvaTady je můj recept. Každé ráno Petřina kavárna. Káva, koláč a lidé.
Here's my prescription: every morning, Petra's café. Coffee, cake and people.
- Pacient
Koláč jako lék? Ten recept mám moc rád!
Cake as medicine? I like this prescription very much!
He goes off, smiling. The receptionist shakes her head.
EvaLauro, nepotřebuje lék. Potřebuje lidi.
Laura, he doesn't need medicine. He needs people.
More patients: a cough, a cut finger, a baby who will not stop crying. At eleven, a student comes in with a heavy rucksack.
- Student

How many hours do you sleep?

Four. I have an exam on Friday, so I study at night.

EvaČtyři? Málo. Unavená hlava se nic nenaučí.
Four? Too little. A tired head learns nothing.
EvaSpěte osm hodin denně. A pijte hodně vody.
Sleep eight hours a night and drink a lot of water.
One o'clock. The waiting room is still full. The receptionist puts her head round the door.
LauraPaní doktorko, zase neobědváte!
Doctor, you're not having lunch again!
EvaNemám čas, Lauro. Možná později.
I haven't got time, Laura. Maybe later.

At seven, Mum. To your place.

MarieVždycky říkáš sedm. A přijdeš v devět.
You always say seven. And you come at nine.

EvaV sobotu? V sobotu pracuju do...
On Saturday? On Saturday I work until...
EliškaMami! Pořád pracuješ!
Mum! You're always working!
Eva looks at her daughter, then at her mother. For once, Marie says nothing.

EvaDobře. V sobotu nepracuju. Na slavnost přijdeme všichni. Ty, já, tatínek a tvůj bratr.
All right. On Saturday I'm not working. We're all coming to the festival: you, me, Dad and your brother.
MarieA já? Já jsem vždycky na slavnosti. Vidím všechno a vím všechno.
And me? I'm always at the festival. I see everything and I know everything.
