Danish in everyday situations

Reviews practise both sides: wherever Lukas and Lena would say something differently, you do it once as each.

Har ikke set / for ti minutter siden

In a main clause, comes after the finite auxiliary and before the participle: .

A finished past time often takes simple past: .

Use to mean ago. Irregular past forms needed by the festival are introduced as a small, useful group rather than an exhaustive table.

Spillede / så / gik

Regular simple past often ends in -ede or -te: , , .

Common irregular verbs must be learned: se → så, gå → gik, finde → fandt, komme → kom.

These forms are the same for every person and sex.

With an explicit finished time such as , the simple past is the natural choice.

Begyndte / faldt / skreg

Retell events with short past clauses. Begynde → begyndte, falde → faldt, skrige → skreg, røre → rørte are useful here.

If a time or sequence phrase starts a main clause, keep verb-second order: , .

A question still places the verb before the subject:

Vi var / I sov

Past forms do not change for plural subjects: , , . Make questions by inversion: , Negative past statements place after the finite verb: .

Object pronouns remain the same in the past.

Vil sende / i morgen sender jeg

For a future plan, use present tense with a future time: . plus infinitive often expresses willingness or a promise: . plus infinitive can mark an arrangement.

The infinitive takes no after these modal verbs. End a friendly letter with and your name.
