A brand-new flat near the station. Monday, six o'clock in the morning. On the fridge door hangs a long list.
Tuomas asuu täällä. Hänellä on paljon listoja. Lista töihin, lista kauppaan ja lista listoista.
This is where Tuomas lives. Tuomas has a lot of lists. A list for work, a list for the shop, and a list of lists.
Tuomas
Maanantai. Kuudelta nousen. Varttia yli kuusi käyn suihkussa.
Monday. At six I get up. At a quarter past six I have a shower.
Tuomas
Seitsemältä aamiainen: kaksi munaa ja leipää.
At seven, breakfast: two eggs and bread.
Tuomas
Puoli kahdeksalta kahvila, pöytä kolme. Teetä ilman sokeria.
At half past seven, the café, table three. Tea without sugar.
Tuomas
Varttia vaille yhdeksän toimisto. Ei koskaan yhdeksältä!
At a quarter to nine, the office. Never at nine!
Tuomas nousee aina kuudelta. Maanantaina, tiistaina, keskiviikkona... ja sunnuntainakin.
Tuomas always gets up at six. On Monday, on Tuesday, on Wednesday... and even on Sunday.
Sunday evening. At seven o'clock exactly, Tuomas's phone rings.
Joka sunnuntai seitsemältä illalla puhelin soi. Tuomaksen äiti soittaa.
Every Sunday at seven in the evening the phone rings. It's Tuomas's mother.
Äiti
Hyvää iltaa, Tuomas! Mitä kuuluu? Syötkö? Nukutko?
Good evening, Tuomas! How are you? Are you eating? Are you sleeping?
Tuomas
Kyllä, äiti. Syön seitsemältä, puoli yhdeltä ja kuudelta. Nukun kymmenestä lähtien.
Yes, Mum. I eat at seven, at half past twelve and at six. I sleep from ten.
Äiti
Isä ja minä nousemme viideltä. Entä kollegasi? Millaisia he ovat?
Dad and I get up at five. And your colleagues? What are they like?
Tuomas
Mukavia. Minulla on uusi kollega. Hän asuu talossa, jossa on kissa.
They're nice. And I've got a new colleague, who lives in a house with a cat.
Äiti
Kissa?! Tuomas, pelkäät kissoja! Onko toimistossa kissa?
With a cat?! Tuomas, you're afraid of cats! Do you have a cat at the office?
Tuomas
Äiti, en pelkää. No... vähän.
Mum, I'm not afraid. Well... a little.
Äiti
Syö, nuku äläkä myöhästy, Tuomas. Hyvää yötä!
Eat, sleep and don't be late, Tuomas. Good night!
Tuomas
Äiti, en koskaan myöhästy.
Mum, I'm never late.
That night, at three o'clock, the old clock on Tuomas's bedside table stops.
On maanantai. Kello on kuusi. Mutta Tuomas ei nouse. Hän nukkuu.
Monday. Six o'clock. But Tuomas doesn't get up. He's asleep.
Tuomas
Paljonko kello on? Kelloni ei käy!
What time is it? My clock is not running!
Puhelimessa on puoli yhdeksän. Puoli yhdeksän!
His phone says half past eight. Half past eight!
Tuomas
Ei, ei, ei! Olen myöhässä!
No, no, no! I'm late!
Tänään Tuomas ei käy suihkussa. Hän ei syö aamiaista. Hän ei mene kahvilaan.
Today Tuomas doesn't have a shower. He doesn't eat breakfast. He doesn't go to the café.
At the café at number 7, Sanna looks at the empty table by the window.
Sanna
Kello on jo kahdeksan, ja pöytä kolme on tyhjä. Missä Tee ilman sokeria on?
It's already eight, and table three is empty. Where's our 'Tea without sugar'?
At the office. You are at your desk; the desk next to yours is empty.
Kymmentä yli yhdeksän, eikä Tuomasta. Ensimmäinen kerta!
Ten past nine, and no Tuomas. That's a first!
Kymmentä yli yhdeksän, eikä Tuomasta. Ensimmäinen kerta!
Ten past nine, and no Tuomas. That's a first!
The door flies open.
Huomenta, Tuomas! Olet myöhässä!
Good morning, Tuomas! You're late!
Huomenta, Tuomas! Olet myöhässä!
Good morning, Tuomas! You're late!
Tuomas
Tiedän, tiedän. Kelloni ei käy. Ja listani on kotona!
I know, I know. My clock is not running. And my list is at home!
Tuomas
Mitä nyt? Milloin kokous on? Mitä teen?
What now? When's the meeting? What am I doing?
Ei hätää. Istu, ole hyvä. Tässä kahvisi.
Don't worry. Sit down, please. Here's your coffee.
Ei hätää. Istu, ole hyvä. Tässä kahvisi.
Don't worry. Sit down, please. Here's your coffee.
Tänään on maanantai. Kokous on torstaina, ei tänään.
Today is Monday. The meeting is on Thursday, not today.
Tänään on maanantai. Kokous on torstaina, ei tänään.
Today is Monday. The meeting is on Thursday, not today.
Tuomas
Totta... Kiitos. Olet hyvä kollega.
That's true... Thank you. You're a good colleague.
Nöpö jumps onto Tuomas's desk and sits down right next to his keyboard.
Tuomas
Sinäkin täällä, Nöpö? Huomenta.
You're here too, Nöpö? Good morning.
Tuomas, miksi pelkäät kissoja?
Tuomas, why are you afraid of cats?
Tuomas, miksi pelkäät kissoja?
Tuomas, why are you afraid of cats?
Tuomas
Olin pienenä joka heinäkuu maalla mummon luona.
When I was little, every July I was in the countryside, at my grandmother's.
Tuomas
Siellä oli kolli. Iso, musta ja hyvin vihainen.
There was a tomcat there. Big, black and very fierce.
Tuomas
Yhtenä yönä se oli sängyssäni. Kasvoillani! Olin viisi.
One night he was in my bed. On my face! I was five.
Kasvoillasi?! Voi ei...
On your face?! Oh dear...
Kasvoillasi?! Voi ei...
On your face?! Oh dear...
Tuomas
Siksi pelkään kissoja. Kaikkia kissoja.
That is why I am afraid of cats. All cats.
Nöpö katsoo Tuomasta. Nöpö ei ole vihainen. Sillä on vain nälkä.
Nöpö looks at Tuomas. Nöpö isn't fierce. He's just hungry.
Tuomas
No niin. Saat istua täällä. Mutta älä istu tietokoneellani!
All right, all right. You can sit here. But don't sit on my computer!
That evening, at home, three new alarm clocks stand on the kitchen table.
Illalla Tuomas kirjoittaa uuden listan.
In the evening Tuomas writes a new list.
Tuomas
Yksi: kolme kelloa. Kaksi: älä myöhästy, Tuomas!
One: three clocks. Two: don't be late, Tuomas!
Entä kolme? Tuomas katsoo paperia kauan. Sitten hän kirjoittaa:
And three? Tuomas looks at the paper for a long time. Then he writes:
Tuomas
Kolme: Nöpö ei ole musta eikä vihainen. Se on harmaa.
Three: Nöpö isn't black, and he isn't fierce. He's grey.
