ყ, ხ and ღ
Separate the uvular ejective from voiceless and voiced friction.
About this unit
Three sounds from far back in the mouth: ejective ყ, rough ხ and its buzzing partner ღ.
- ყ
ejective q: deep, poppedყავა · coffee - ხ
kh, as in German “Bach”ხელი · hand / arm - ღgh: like kh with a buzzღამე · night
ყ stops and pops like კ, but deeper. ხ and ღ keep the air flowing.
Reading tips
ყ is a stop with an ejective release. ხ and ღ keep air flowing; ღ has voice, ხ does not. Avoid reducing all three to an English k or g.

The guided course has on-screen letters in logical order. A Georgian keyboard, often with a phonetic Latin-key mapping, is optional. Names and sentences use ordinary Mkhedruli, not a capital first letter. Mtavruli is an all-capital style for whole headings.
