ბ, ფ and პ
Hear voiced b, aspirated p and ejective p in real words.
About this unit
Georgian has three kinds of p and b. Listen for the buzz, the puff of air and the tight, popped release.
- ბ
voiced b: throat buzzesბალი · cherry - ფ
aspirated p: a puff of airფული · money - პ
ejective p: tight, poppedპური · bread
| Kind | What you hear |
|---|---|
| voiced | your throat buzzes |
| aspirated | a puff of air follows |
| ejective | a tight, popped sound, no puff |
პური is bread and ფური is cow: one letter changes the word. ფ is never f.

Listen to ბა / ფა / პა on the same vowel. პური and ფური differ in their first consonant: bread versus cow. The hints p’ and p help only after the audio contrast; Georgian ფ is not English f.

The guided course has on-screen letters in logical order. A Georgian keyboard, often with a phonetic Latin-key mapping, is optional. Names and sentences use ordinary Mkhedruli, not a capital first letter. Mtavruli is an all-capital style for whole headings.
