Unit 21 · Recognise the Mtavruli heading style · Meet

Recognise the Mtavruli heading style

Match known words across two encoded print forms.

About this unit

Mtavruli is an all-capital style for headings and signs. Each Mtavruli letter matches one ordinary letter and keeps its sound.

  • A whole heading is written in Mtavruli: ᲗᲑᲘᲚᲘᲡᲘ.
  • Normal text never starts a name or a sentence with a capital.
  • You only need to recognise Mtavruli; writing it is optional.

Reading tips

Mtavruli is used for whole headings or all-capital signs: ყავა → ᲧᲐᲕᲐ. It is not a system of putting one capital at the start of every name or sentence. Match familiar words first; producing Mtavruli is optional.

Use a Georgian keyboard

The guided course has on-screen letters in logical order. A Georgian keyboard, often with a phonetic Latin-key mapping, is optional. Names and sentences use ordinary Mkhedruli, not a capital first letter. Mtavruli is an all-capital style for whole headings.
