Comparative, superlative and comparisons
Der Zug ist schneller als das Auto. Heute ist es so warm wie gestern. With comparative, superlative and comparisons you compare people and things — including irregular forms like gut ,besser and am besten .

Grammar → Comparative, superlative and comparisons
With the comparative and the superlative you grade an adjective. There are three levels:
Positive (base form) — groß :Mein Garten ist groß. Comparative (higher level) — größer :Dein Garten ist größer. Superlative (highest level) — am größten :Ihr Garten ist am größten. You form the comparative with the ending -er :schnell → schneller ,klein → kleiner .umlaut is added: groß → größer ,alt → älter .
You form the superlative with am and the ending -sten :am schnellsten ,am kleinsten ,am größten .
Warning
Some adjectives are irregular :gut → besser → am besten .viel → mehr → am meisten .hoch → höher → am höchsten .gern → lieber → am liebsten .

With comparisons you say whether two things are equal or different .
Unequal — comparative + als :Anna ist größer als Tom. Der Zug ist schneller als das Auto.
Equal — so + base form + wie :Anna ist so alt wie Tom. Heute ist es so warm wie gestern.
Warning
After the comparative always use als ,wie :Tom ist älter als ich.
Comparison Structure Example Unequal Komparativ + als Anna ist größer als Tom. Equal so + adjective + wie Anna ist so alt wie Tom.
