A dass clause names content. At B2 level, this dass clause often attaches to a correlative in the main clause: The correlative introduces the dass clause and points forward to it.

There are two kinds of correlative:

Abstract noun — a noun like Tatsache, Umstand, Eindruck, or Hoffnung plus comma and dass: die Tatsache, dass er gekommen ist der Umstand, dass niemand half.
da-correlate — a word with da(r)- for a verb or adjective with a fixed preposition: Ich rechne damit, dass es klappt. Ich bin froh darüber, dass du da bist. Es liegt daran, dass alle müde sind.

The da(r)- picks up exactly the preposition required by the verb or adjective: rechnen mit → damit; froh über → darüber; liegen an → daran.

Whatever the correlative — the dass clause is always a subordinate clause: The finite verb goes at the very end. Ich bin sicher, dass die Idee gut ist. Not …, dass die Idee ist gut.
