Degree particles are small words that grade an adjective or adverb on a scale. They stand directly before the word they grade: sehr groß,ziemlich teuer,äußerst wichtig.
This lets you make a quality stronger or weaker without using the comparative:Der Koffer ist schwer. → Der Koffer ist sehr schwer.
From strong to weak: 1. äußerst / höchst (extremely) — the highest degree: Die Frage ist äußerst wichtig. 2. sehr (very) — a high degree: Das Wetter ist sehr schön. 3. besonders (especially) — highlights something: Heute war es besonders kalt. 4. ziemlich / recht (quite / rather) — a medium degree: Der Weg war ziemlich lang.Der Vortrag war recht interessant. 5. ganz (fairly) — a light degree: Die Aufgabe ist ganz einfach. 6. etwas / ein bisschen (a little) — a small degree: Ich bin etwas müde.
