Explanation
An indirect question is a subordinate clause. You don't ask directly, but embed the question after a main clause like Ich weiß nicht, … or Sie fragt, …. A comma comes before the indirect question.
The most important thing is word order: In the indirect question the verb moves to the end:
Yes/no question — use ob (whether): Kommt er morgen? — Ich weiß nicht, ob er morgen kommt.
W-question — use the question word (wann,wo,warum,wer,was): Wann fährt der Zug? — Sie fragt, wann der Zug fährt.
Compare the direct and indirect question: In the direct question the verb comes first; in the indirect question at the very end:Wo wohnst du? — Ich möchte wissen, wo du wohnst.
