Explanation

In German there are two words for negation: nicht and kein.

kein negates a noun with ein or without an article: Ich habe ein AutoIch habe kein Auto. kein takes the same endings as ein: kein, keine, kein, in the plural keine.

nicht negates everything else — a verb, an adjective, a name or a noun with der/die/das: Ich arbeite nicht. Das ist nicht schön.
