Personal pronouns and the present tense

A1

Who does what? With personal pronouns and present-tense verb conjugation, you talk about yourself and others — from regular verbs like kommen to irregular ones like sprechen or fahren. The foundation for everyday conversation at A1 level.

  • Present tense, regular verbs
  • Present tense, irregular verbs (stem-vowel change)
  • Personal pronouns, nominative

Explanation

In the present tense, you talk about the present. The verb gets an ending that matches the personal pronoun (I, you, he/she/it …).

Most verbs are regular: you take the verb stem (e.g. spiel-) and add the ending — -e, -st, -t: ich spiele, du spielst, er spielt.

More
If the stem ends in -t or -d, an extra -e- is added: arbeitendu arbeitest, er arbeitet.
