Possessive articles

A1

Das ist mein Buch. With possessive articles you express ownership and belonging — important for talking about family, things, and relationships. Here in the nominative as an introduction.

  • Possessive determiners, nominative

Explanation

With possessive articles you say who something belongs to (my, your, his …). Each person has a possessive article: ichmein, dudein, ersein, sieihr, wirunser, ihreuer, sie/Sieihr/Ihr.

In the nominative, the ending depends on the noun:

  1. der- and das-words: no ending — mein Vater, mein Kind.
  2. die-words and plural: ending -emeine Mutter, meine Eltern.
