Preferences

With gern you say that you like something. gern comes after the verb: Ich lese gern. Wir kochen gern.

For comparing preferences there are three levels:

  1. Positive (no comparison) — gern: Ich trinke gern Kaffee.
  2. Comparative (my preference) — lieber: Ich trinke lieber Tee.
  3. Superlative (my favorite) — am liebsten: Ich trinke am liebsten Wasser.
