Reading tips

ओ · o

औ · au

ो · o sign

ौ · au sign · Often a long open back vowel in Standard Hindi.

ो and ौ have visible parts above and to the right, but each is one vowel sign. मो is mo; मौ is mau. The au hint is conventional and need not be the English ow sound.

There is no separate vowel mark for the inherent short a. Independent अ is introduced later for a syllable starting with that vowel.
