Review plain प. फ traditionally spells aspirated ph, while फ़ explicitly spells f. In everyday Hindi many speakers also pronounce familiar फ words with f. A single pronunciation does not tell you whether a dot is written.

ब is voiced b; भ adds breath. Keep vowel marks attached to the whole consonant.
