ण · ṇa · Retroflex nasal, common in Sanskrit-derived words.

श and ष are commonly pronounced alike in Standard Hindi. Their spellings cannot reliably be chosen by a sound-only rule. Read and remember the whole word. The matching sound exercises use only one of शा and षा; षा is a printed reference, not a second listening answer.

ण is a retroflex nasal; compare dental न. It occurs especially in Sanskrit-derived words. In गणना, the adjacent ण + न have a joined consonant sequence.
