Jam lima pagi. Semua orang di rumah tidur.
Five in the morning. Everybody in the house is asleep.
Bu Sari tidur, Miko tidur. Hanya Budi masih main di atas, pelan sekali.
Sari is asleep, Miko is asleep. Only Budi, upstairs, is still playing, very quietly.
Tapi Bu Rina sudah bangun. Dia sudah di kafe.
But Rina is already up. She's already in the café.
Rina
Selamat pagi, kafe saya! Waktunya membuat roti.
Good morning, my café! Time to bake.
Bu Rina membuat roti dan kue. Di kulkas ada tiga puluh telur, banyak susu, dan mentega.
Rina bakes bread and cake. In the fridge: thirty eggs, plenty of milk and butter.
Di dalam oven ada kuenya. Enak sekali.
Her cake is in the oven. It is very good.
Six o'clock. The phone rings. Only one person calls at this hour.
Jam enam pagi, telepon berbunyi.
At six in the morning the phone rings.
Rina
Halo? Nenek! Selamat pagi!
Hello? Grandma! Good morning!
Nenek
Selamat pagi, Rina! Sudah membuat roti?
Good morning, Rina! Are you baking already?
Rina
Ya. Dan Nenek? Nenek juga belum tidur?
Yes, I'm baking. And you? Aren't you asleep either?
Nenek
Belum. Nenek juga membuat roti. Kita tidak tidur. Kita membuat roti!
No. I'm baking too. We don't sleep, we bake!
Nenek Bu Rina tinggal di desa. Dia membuat roti setiap pagi.
Rina's grandmother lives in a village. She bakes bread every morning.
Nenek
Kamu makan, Rina? Semua orang makan kue kamu. Dan kamu?
Are you eating, Rina? Everybody eats your cake. And you?
Rina
Saya tidak lapar, Nek. Saya tidak punya waktu.
I'm not hungry, Grandma. And I don't have time.
Nenek
Tidak lapar? Orang lapar tidak senang. Kamu tahu.
Not hungry? A hungry person is an unhappy person. You know that.
Rina
Saya tahu. Karena itu, semua orang di kafe saya mendapat kue.
I know, I know. That's why everybody in my café gets cake.
Seven o'clock. Rina opens the café. Outside, people are already waiting.
Jam tujuh, Bu Rina membuka pintu. Orang sudah menunggu di luar.
At seven Rina opens the door. People are already waiting there.
Rina
Selamat pagi! Silakan masuk!
Good morning! Come in, come in!
Budi datang pertama. Dia main sepanjang malam. Dia lelah sekali.
Budi comes in first. He plays all night, and he's very tired.
Budi
Pagi, Bu Rina... Teh, ya. Teh saja.
Morning, Rina... Tea, please. Just tea.
Rina
Baik, Budi. Kamu tidak lapar. Kamu lelah. Ini secangkir besar teh.
All right, Budi. You're not hungry, you're tired. Here's a big cup of tea.
Bu Rina tahu apa yang semua orang mau. Bu Sari menceritakan semuanya.
Rina knows what everybody wants. Sari tells her everything.
Then Sari comes in, with Intan on her way to school.
Rina
Selamat pagi, Bu Sari! Halo, Intan! Kalian mau apa?
Good morning, Mrs Sari! Hi, Intan! What would you two like?
Ibu Sari
Teh hitam untuk saya, tanpa gula.
Black tea for me, no sugar.
Intan
Panekuk untuk saya! Sepuluh panekuk!
And pancakes for me! Ten pancakes!
Ibu Sari
Intan! Bukan sepuluh. Dua.
Intan! Not ten. Two.
Rina
Dua panekuk dengan mentega dan secangkir susu. Dan satu panekuk kecil untuk Miko.
Two pancakes with butter and a cup of milk. And one small pancake for Miko.
Miko sudah duduk di kursi. Dia suka panekuk.
Miko is already sitting on a chair. He loves pancakes.
Eight o'clock. The café is full. A woman in a smart grey coat hurries in, her phone in her hand.
Pelanggan
Kopi, ya! Cepat! Saya terburu-buru.
A coffee, please! Quickly! I'm in a hurry.
Rina
Selamat pagi! Kopi dengan susu? Dengan gula?
Good morning! Coffee with milk? With sugar?
Pelanggan
Tanpa susu. Tanpa gula. Tanpa kue! Saya tidak lapar.
No milk. No sugar. And no cake! I'm not hungry.
"Saya tidak lapar." Bu Rina tidak suka kata-kata itu.
"I'm not hungry." Rina doesn't like that at all.
Rina
Tidak lapar? Tapi Ibu lelah sekali. Ini kopinya. Dan kuenya gratis.
You're not hungry? But you're very tired. Here's your coffee. And the cake is on me.
Pelanggan
Tidak, terima kasih! Saya tidak punya waktu. Berapa harga kopi?
No, thank you! I don't have time. How much is the coffee?
Rina
Dua puluh tiga ribu rupiah. Kuenya gratis.
Twenty-three thousand rupiah. The cake is free.
The woman looks at the cake. She takes one bite. Then another.
Pelanggan
Mmm... Enak sekali! Boleh satu lagi?
Mmm... I really like it! Can I have another one?
Rina
Tentu! Silakan duduk.
Of course! Sit down, please.
Ibu itu duduk dan makan. Dia tidak lelah lagi.
And she sits. And eats. And she isn't tired any more.
Evening. The last guest has gone. Rina counts the money, and Miko sits in the café window.
Malam hari. Kafe itu kosong.
Evening. The café is empty.
Rina
Hari ini delapan puluh orang! Semua orang mendapat kue.
Eighty people today! And everybody gets cake.
Telepon berbunyi lagi. Bu Rina sudah tahu: Nenek.
The phone rings again. Rina already knows: it's Grandma.
Nenek
Bagaimana, Rina? Kamu makan?
Well, Rina? Are you eating?
Rina
Ya, Nek! Sekarang saya makan. Roti dengan keju dan kue.
Yes, Grandma! I'm eating now. Bread with cheese, and cake.
Dan Miko? Miko juga makan. Tentu, ikan.
And Miko? Miko is eating too. Fish, of course.
Rina
Selamat tidur, Miko. Besok jam lima pagi lagi!
Good night, Miko. Tomorrow, five in the morning again!
