Tune your ear
Hear relaxed, airy and tense starts and two kinds of vowel with labelled models.
About this unit
Korean has three kinds of consonant start where English has two: relaxed, airy and tense. It also has vowels said with relaxed lips that English speakers easily round by mistake.
Each game first plays labelled models. Listen as often as you like, then decide which one the mystery sound is. After each answer you get a short explanation. There is no failure state.
Try it with your hand in front of your mouth: 가 gives a little air, 카 a strong puff, 까 almost none but a tight, higher start.
