Evening. Ġorġ lives upstairs. His flat is small, but nice.

Good evening, Ċikku! Are you hungry?
His phone rings. On the screen it says: Mamà.
Iċċempel il-mamà ta' Ġorġ. Hi toqgħod 'il bogħod.
It's Ġorġ's mum calling. She lives far away.

He puts the phone down and looks at the trumpet for a long time.
Ġorġ
Xogħol veru... Ċikku, lanqas int m'għandek xogħol.
A real job... Ċikku, you don't have a job either.
Ċikku jorqod. Hu s-sid hawn. M'għandux bżonn xogħol.
Ċikku is asleep. He's the boss here. He doesn't need a job.
A knock. Two friends come in: Kurt with a double bass in a big case, and Rebekka with a small drum under her arm.
Xi ħadd jiftaħ il-bieb. Huma Kurt u Rebekka, il-ħbieb ta' Ġorġ.
Somebody opens the door. It's Kurt and Rebekka, Ġorġ's friends.

Ħello, Ġorġ! Aħna hawn!
Hi, Ġorġ! We're here!
Ġorġ
Ħello! Merħba! Intom bil-ġuħ?
Hi! Welcome! Are you hungry?
Rebekka
Iva, ħafna. Imma issa: il-mużika!
Yes, very. But first: music!
Ġorġ, Kurt u Rebekka huma mużiċisti. Idoqqu filgħaxija u bil-lejl.
Ġorġ, Kurt and Rebekka are musicians. They play in the evening and at night.
Ġorġ
Ħbieb, għandi kanzunetta ġdida.
Friends, I've got a new song.
Ġorġ idoqq. Kurt u Rebekka bilqiegħda fuq is-sodda u jħarsu.
Ġorġ plays. Kurt and Rebekka sit on the bed and watch.

Ġorġ, din kanzunetta tajba ħafna!
Ġorġ, that's a really good song!

Xxx! Bil-kwiet, jekk jogħġbok. Isfel il-ġirien jorqdu.
Shh! Quietly, please. The neighbours downstairs are asleep.
