A halant removes a consonant’s inherent vowel. The resulting cluster may be a half form or ligature. Nepali final-vowel conventions differ from Hindi: learn the actual Nepali whole word and its careful spelling. Visarga occurs in Sanskrit-derived spelling; its pronunciation belongs to the word.
