Unit 24 · The same words in italic print · Meet

The same words in italic print

Recognise т, и, д and п when their shapes change.

About this unit

Italic print changes some letter shapes, not their sounds.

  • In italics, т can look like m, и like u, д like g and п like n.
  • Read the whole word: a word you know tells you which letter it is.
  • Never give an italic letter its Latin lookalike sound.

The standard Russian layout is ЙЦУКЕН. All guided writing also works with on-screen tiles. Type ё with its own key when practising ё; outside that task е is a common printed replacement. Teaching stress accents are optional input, not extra letters.
