The storyA rainy Saturday in spring. Lucía wanted to ride her bike to the park. Her mother is working, so Lucía spends the day at Elvira's, with pancakes, a drawing of the sea, and a small dog she wants.

Sábado por la mañana. Llueve. Los tejados están mojados.
Saturday morning. It is raining. The roofs are wet.
Lucía ya tiene diez años. Está con su abuela y mira por la ventana.
Lucía is ten now. She is with Grandma and looks out of the window.

ElviraTú sí. Tu bicicleta, no.
You do. Your bicycle does not.

The phone. It is Lucía's mother, calling from work.

In the morning we swim. The sea is colder than the lake, but I like it.
LucíaY nado mejor que mamá. Bueno, casi.
And I swim better than Mum. Well, nearly.

And your little brother?
LucíaEn mi dibujo ya es grande. Pero todavía no sabe nadar.
In my drawing he is big already. But he cannot swim yet.

LucíaHacemos un castillo. Me ayuda. ¡Y come arena!
We make a castle. He helps me. And eats sand!
LucíaPor la noche hace viento. Por eso llevamos gorros y chaquetas.
At night it is windy. That is why we take hats and jackets.
ElviraBien. Cerca del mar hace frío por la noche.
Good. Near the sea it is cold at night.
LucíaYo nunca tengo frío en el mar.
I never feel cold by the sea.
Elvira¿Nunca? ¿Ni con viento y sin chaqueta?

Lucía turns the page and draws a small brown dog.
LucíaY este es mi perro. ¡Quiero uno así!
And this is my dog. I want one like this!
Elvira¿Tu perro? ¿Qué dice Michi?
Your dog? What does Michi say?
LucíaMichi vive aquí. El perro puede vivir en nuestra casa.
Michi lives here. The dog can live at our house.
Elvira¿Y quién lo pasea? Tus padres trabajan. Tú vas a la escuela.
And who walks him? Your parents work. You go to school.
Lucía¡Yo! Puedo cuidarlo. A Michi también.
Me! I can look after him. Michi too.

On the windowsill the grey tomcat opens one eye, looks at the drawing of the dog, and turns his back on it.

ElviraTiene razón. Trabaja mucho. Por eso está cansada.
She is right. She works a lot. That is why she is tired.

Afternoon. The rain stops, and the sun comes out over the wet roofs.
Lucía¡Abuela! ¡El sol! ¿Puedo ir en bicicleta ahora?
Grandma! The sun! Can I ride my bicycle now?

ElviraSí. Pero lleva gorro y bufanda. Todavía hace frío.
Yes. But take a hat and scarf. It is still cold.
Lucía¡Hola! ¡Hace sol! ¿Vienes al parque con tu perro?

Evening. Mum comes into the kitchen, tired, with a wet umbrella.
