Polite requests and negative commands

Soft commands in Thai often use ช่วย...หน่อย. This sounds polite and natural in daily speech, for example ช่วยเขียนข้อความหน่อยครับ.

For negative commands, use อย่า.... For example, อย่าไปใกล้เครื่องพิมพ์ means do not go near the printer.

Thai often drops the subject in commands. The listener is clear from the situation.

These short command forms are common and very practical with animals, children, friends, and coworkers.

• ช่วยใส่กลับในกระเป๋าหน่อยPlease put him back in the bag.

• เสือ อย่าไปใกล้ เครื่องพิมพ์Suea, don't go near the printer.

• ช่วยเขียนข้อความหน่อยครับPlease write a message.

  ช่วยเขียนข้อความหน่อยค่ะPlease write a message.

• ขอกระดาษกับปากกาหน่อยPaper and a pen, please.

• เสือ มานี่Suea, come here.

• อย่า ขึ้นคอมพิวเตอร์Don’t get on the computer.

• ช่วยอยู่ห่างหน่อยครับPlease keep your distance.

  ช่วยอยู่ห่างหน่อยค่ะPlease keep your distance.

• อย่า นอนตอนทำงานDon't sleep at work.
