Habits and frequency

To talk about routines, Thai often uses ทุกวัน for every day. For one regular weekday, use forms like ทุกวันพฤหัสบดี.

Common frequency words are ปกติ for usually, บางที for sometimes, and ไม่เคย for never.

Thai often puts the time phrase first, for example ทุกวันตอนสิบสองโมงครึ่ง or ทุกวันพฤหัสบดี. This makes routine sentences easy to follow.

These words usually go with simple present-style verbs. Thai does not change the verb form.

An adverb describes how or how often an action happens. Thai frequency words such as ทุกวัน often go after the action; a time topic can also come first.

• ก้องมาที่บริษัท ทุกวันKong comes to the company every day.

• มีประชุม ทุกวันพฤหัสบดีThere is a meeting every Thursday.

• ผมกินเค้ก บางครั้ง ครับI sometimes eat cake.

  ฉันกินเค้ก บางครั้ง ค่ะI sometimes eat cake.

• พักกลางวัน ทุกวัน ตอนสิบสองโมงครึ่งLunch break is every day at half past twelve.

• วันสุดสัปดาห์ ปกติ กินไข่At the weekend, I usually eat eggs.

• เสือ ไม่เคย มาสายSuea is never late.

• ผมอ่านหนังสือ ทุกวัน ครับI read every day.

  ฉันอ่านหนังสือ ทุกวัน ค่ะI read every day.

• มีแต่กาแฟ ไม่มี ชาThere is only coffee, no tea.
