Clothes and how they fit

Use ใส่ for wearing clothes: ใส่เสื้อยืด , ใส่หมวก , ใส่แจ็กเก็ต .

To talk about fit, Thai often uses พอดี = “fits / just right,” คับ = “tight,” and หลวม = “loose.”

A natural shopping sentence is ตัวนี้พอดี or ตัวนี้คับไปหน่อย . For a clear problem, learners also hear เล็กเกินไป and ใหญ่เกินไป.

Thai clothes talk is often short and direct: ใส่แล้วพอดี , เสื้อตัวนี้หลวม .

• วันนี้ใส่เสื้อกันฝนToday I’m wearing a raincoat.

• แจ็กเก็ตตัวนี้พอดีThis jacket fits.

• เสื้อตัวนี้คับThis shirt is tight.

• กางเกงตัวนั้นหลวมThose trousers are loose.

• หมวกใบนี้ใส่แล้วคับThis hat is tight when worn.

• รองเท้าคู่นี้หลวมเกินไปThese shoes are too loose.

• ตัวนี้พอดีกับผมครับThis one fits me.

  ตัวนี้พอดีกับฉันค่ะThis one fits me.

• ผมใส่สีเหลืองไม่ได้ครับI can’t wear yellow.

  ฉันใส่สีเหลืองไม่ได้ค่ะI can’t wear yellow.
