ไ and ใ both spell ai. You cannot choose their spelling from sound alone: learn ไป (go) and ใบ (leaf) as complete words. ำ gives am, including its final m, as in ดำ (black). เ–า surrounds the initial and spells ao, not ee followed by aa: เตา is a stove.
