Reading tips

ิ · i · Short i, above the consonant.

ี · ii · Long i, above the consonant.

ุ · u · Short u, below the consonant.

ู · uu · Long uu, below the consonant.

ิ and ี sit above the consonant, ุ and ู below it. Read the consonant first, then the vowel. One stroke more means a longer vowel: กิน (eat) is short, มีด (knife) is long.

Below the line it works the same way: มุม (corner) has short u, ปู (crab) long uu. Length can change a word, so do not swap ิ for ี or ุ for ู. Listen to the models in the ear game first, then read.
